Protecting Your Exterior Paint:

Here at Michael O'Shea and Sons Painting we know from experience that ultraviolet rays, moisture and the constant fluctuation in temperature are the main causes for deterioration of finished exterior surfaces of your home.  However, did you know there are ways to combat these obstacles by using the right products in the right places, and at Michael O'Shea and Sons Painting, we have the solutions.

Sunlight breaks down the binding agents leaving a powdery residue that will get washed away in high wind and rainstorms.  The end result is faded coloring and a stressed out protective coat that is left weakened and will not last long. Eventually moisture to penetrate the surface causing severe damage to the under-laying wood if left untreated for any period of time. This is totally preventable with the right finish the first time around.

There are a few factors that will keep a house from excessive peeling. The first stage is the prep work. Using a pressure washer will insure that all areas that are going to be painted will  be clear of all peeling paint, mildew, and grim. Pressure washing is best completed a few days in advanced to allow the wood to dry. Once this is done, it's time to prime. We like to lay it on thick! Depending of your surface, you have the choice of oil-based primer, or acrylic-based primer. You may even choose a primer that is tinted to match the paint color. Once the first primer is applied, it is wise to use 2 coats of a top quality 100% acrylic latex paint.

Expansion and contraction come hand-in-hand with ever changing temperatures. This too causes more severe damage to your home. Again preventable with the right paints and sealants.  Choosing high quality products combined with good surface preparation we can help you prolong the life of your finished look and extend the longevity of your home.
